Crocheting something warm

This is my current big crochet project. I had the white weft stored for such a long time that I had to unravel it into skeins to have it washed in the washing machine and then roll it back into balls. I got some exercise while doing that. The linen brown cotton yarn is also very old. They are the same yarn but from different batches. The labels tell more than the actual color shade. Novita doesn't manufacture this yarn anymore although there might be a replacement for it. But it doesn't matter, I have plenty of these yarn balls tucked away. I bought a big bunch of them and have been saving them since then.

It looks like a carpet

This is quite easy to make. It's only about chain stitches and double crochet (dc) / single crochet (sc) stitches. The white weft just runs inside the brown crochet. I decided to use two yarns instead of one to make it sturdier. The crochet is flexible because the dc/sc stitches goes under the chain and not on top of the dc/sc on the previous layer. This also makes the carpet look like as if it was woven. I like the lively look on it. I don't like the edges because they seem to ripple in different lengths.

The width of the carpet is around 105 cm or less, depending on which row is being measured. The length will be somewhere 150 or 200 cm. It depends if there is enough materials and I have the interest to make it that long.

A close-up of the carpet

Before the carpet I started making a cardigan sometimes in the end of the last year. Below you can see what I have so far. It's pretty much at the same phase as the mittens that I started many many many years ago. I have no idea how to proceed the cardigan. I mean I don't use any patterns for it. I want to create something on my own. There is a good chance those cuffs may turn into mittens or socks. But when, we don't know...
