Lindy's color challenge October 2020

| A closer view of the art journal spread |
A time for another art journal spread to enter the Lindy's October 2020 color challenge. As usual I didn't have any specific idea what to create so I just proceeded one step at a time. So, what comes to the question on the art journal spread... I don't really dream (in my sleep) what to create and what I dream (in daytime dreaming) is not something that I'm capable of creating.
I didn't give a much thought to which stencil or paste I would use. I just used what I already had there on my desk. Firstly I spread some white gesso by 13@rts with a palette knife. I didn't cover the whole spread, just added the gesso randomly here and there. Then I used the 13@rts' stencil to create some texture. After that had dried I brushed on the whole spread some Finnabair's clear gesso.

Then it was time for some colors. I used the following products by Lindy: Gag me with a spoon gray magical powder, Shabby turbine teal magical powder and Cheshire cat cherry starburst spray (which doesn't seem to available at Lindy's web store). I mixed water with each color in separate cups. On the background I used the gray color mostly on the edges and the cherry red I put over the stenciled triangles. While I was still figuring out what to use as focal point I covered one watercolor paper panel with the same red color and the another one with the teal color. When the first layer of color had dried a bit I added another layer to the deepen the colors. I also added that cherry red directly from the bottle.

When all of that had dried I decided to add some white color to the background. I started off by spreading the white gesso with a brush. It mixed with the cherry red creating some pink color splotches. In some bits it was okay but I didn't want the white areas to turn pink. So I took my almost empty tub of white acrylic paint and scooped tiny amounts of it with a palette knife and then spread it over the background. I also cleaned the palette knife by scraping the nearly dry acrylic paint on to the triangles. I did add some more cherry red and gray colors, then repeated with the white acrylic paint until I got a desired look.

I thought the cherry red watercolor paper needed something extra so I took the same stencil and some 3d gloss gel by Finnabair. I stenciled the triangles over the paper and let it dry over night. In the morning I placed some scrap pieces of pink foil (Gina K.'s Passionate pink fancy foil) over the paper and ran it through my Sizzix Bigshot with some paper shims. The 3d gloss gel foiled beautifully.

At this point the focal point had formed in my mind. I draw and cut some paper patterns for some leaf branches. Then I traced them onto the watercolor paper colored with the teal color. I cut them out and then added some shading to the leaves and twigs by using the same teal color and the Gag me with a spoon gray.

The pink triangles are supposed represent the lilac flowers which are in that Lindy's color challenge graphic below. They may look odd at first glace but once the eye gets used to them, the modern almost abstract look makes them quite interesting to look at. For finishing touches I added Dovecraft's glitter glue over the leaf branches and then sprinkled some teal colored glass micro beads I had bought from the Flying tiger quite a while ago (and hadn't used them since). I may have to add more glue over the micro beads if they start falling after drying.
