Lindy's color challenge August 2018

The Purple galaxy

So, I decided to make another mixed media work to enter the Lindy's color challenge. I didn't have any specific plans for it other than to use some new glass beads that I had bought. I also bought some new Lindy's sprays and one of those is Pop rock purple. In fact, I didn't even have any purples before this. I also bought Urban amethyst, Hibiscus rose and Poppin' pink. I was attempted to try them on this particular piece but decided to stick with the colors that were given in the color challenge graphic (plus black and Grab a guy gold). I was a bit confused when I looked at the color graphic and the listed colors. Some of the magical powder jars didn't match with list. But I suppose it wasn't that important since it is okay to use colors that you already have.

Below are shown the supplies and materials that I used. I started with spreading Prima's soft matte gel over the whole background paper. It was a paper meant for oil painting, by the way. Not ideal but it worked and warped also...

Some of the base and finishing supplies

While the soft matte gel was still wet I sprinkled over it some decoration sand and squirted a big amount of Rayher's glitter glue. Before leaving it to dry over night I sprinkled some pink and clear glass microbeads. I brushed some Liquitex coarse texture gel to the corners and some Ranger's crackle texture paste almost everywhere else. While they were drying I added Ranger Frosted lace and more beads to the rocky surface.

The building material

So for the coloring I used three of Lindy's sprays and two of magical shakers. Mostly I used the Pop rock purple and Chateau rose. Here and there I shaked some of that Oom pah pah pink and spritzed water over it. The Grab a guy gold I mixed with water and then added it over some parts. The blazing black was to give more depth to the edges.

Letting it dry before continueing

I had a tiny bottle of Ranger's crackle accents. I took the whole nostle off and poured the stuff to the edges and then spread it around. I kept the center clear from it since there already was that cracled texture paste.

I repeated adding color and layered more glitter glues with microbeads. I really liked the teeny tiny 13arts' golden microspheres as well as the slightly bigger golden glass beads. The Fabrika decoru's glass drops was great because it stayed raised so I used it on those little valleys that had formed between the decoration sands.

I wish I would have had some rough edged pink/purple or even clear crystals but instead I had to use some round gems (meant for card making). Over and around them I put some Ranger's Star dust glitter glue, just to blend them in. I used the multi mediums and collage medium to seal the colors and beads. Before brushing them over I had sprayed some hair spray to keep the tiny loose beads in place.

This was almost becoming a never ending project because I kept adding colors and glitter glues. And since there was wet glue I had to sprinkle some more glass beads. I had to force myself to stop.
