Lindy's color challenge November 2020

A close-up on that art journal spread

Here is my piece for the Lindy's November 2020 color challenge. It took me a couple of days longer than planned so I didn't even bother to ask if I could enter it to the challenge. It's not that great spread anyway...

I had troubles with design and the color choices. I do like the earth toned colors that you can see on the graphic at the bottom. I just couldn't find matching shades from my color stash (and my stash is not small) nor was I keen to mix my own colors. I know the yellow is far too lemonish-greenish and the green... well, it's okay but it could have had more yellow to it. The orange may be too light but I'm not complaining about it. Oh, I did try to mix some Marabu's yellow spray acrylic paint with the bling-y-blond but it didn't really help.

It took me forever to decide on the background. I decided to keep it simple since the leaves had all the colors on them. I covered the background with Ranger's acrylic paint. The paint was quite old and thick, so I used the palette knife for that. I splashed some of that Marabu's yellow spray acrylic paint all over it. When that had dried I realized the yellow acrylic paint was far too light and transluscent. Trying to figure out how to fix it I thought I could put foil over it. But being unsure if the acrylic paint was sticky enough I decided to add more splashes with the Distress resist spray by Ranger. I let that dry over night. The next day I took a large piece of foil, placed it over the background and then cranked it through the Sizzix Bigshot with some paper shims to give extra pressure.

So, I used the Lindy's colors to color the maple leaf die cuts. I cut them with a Joy craft's die. I didn't want any texture or 3d effect on the leaves so I only colored them.

I had already lost hope with that art journal spread so I didn't want to waste too much time on how to put everything on the background. If I had more leaves I could have stacked them somehow nice and randomly but I didn't want to make more of them. I just quickly glued them down and added the text.
